PROJECTS:
The Stevie Dress & Top
With no darts, zips or set-in sleeves, Stevie is a satisfyingly quick and easy make. Perfect for beginners. Throw it on with a statement necklace and you’re good to go!
- Modern, boxy fit, with easy-peasy grown-on sleeves
- Round neckline with choice of pretty tie or button loop at the back
- Make it as a top with a high hip hemline, or above-the-knee tunic dress
- Optional patch pocket and turn up cuffs
The Lotta Dress
Easy to make, with no fiddly bits, Lotta is a perfect dressmaking project for beginners, or a satisfyingly speedy sew for more experienced stitchers. It has a blousy bodice and flared skirt, cinched in with a narrow elasticated waistline.
Choose between knee-length or midi-length skirt, with grown-on short sleeves or bracelet-length drop shoulder sleeves, with optional deep patch pockets.
The Cielo Dress & Top
The Cielo Dress & Top is an easy, breezy take on a boxy tee and shift dress. Loaded with interesting details and interchangeable features, it will fast become a wardrobe-building favourite.
Choose between a semi-cropped top with a cuffed short sleeve (View A) or a dramatic gathered long sleeve (View B). Or, make an easy-fitting dress with sleek inseam pockets (View C), or without pockets (View D). All views have a slightly dropped shoulder, angled shoulder yoke and roomy fit, with a choice between an elegant bias binding or a faced neckline finish.
The Cleo Dungaree/Pinafore dress
Cleo is easy to make and oh so comfortable to wear. Make it dungaree-style with buckles or as a pinafore with buttons, with mini- or knee-length hem, optional centre front split, choice of patch pockets and contrast topstitching. Wear Cleo year round, over a Breton top in the summer or with a roll neck and snuggly tights in winter. Flattering on different shapes, once you try it, you’ll wonder how you lived without a dungaree dress!
YOU WILL LEARN:
- Refresher on taking body measurements and choosing the correct size for a perfect fit.
- How to finish your seams neatly for a polished, professional look.
- Basic introduction to the overlocker, and how to use it to finish seams neatly and professionally.
- How to sew neck facings for a clean finish around the neckline.
- The technique of understitching for a crisp, professional neckline.
- How to do stay stitching to prevent fabric from stretching out of shape.
Depending on the style you choose to make you may also learn:
- How to insert set-in sleeves for a clean, tailored look (Cielo)
- How to sew bust darts for shaping and fit (Cielo)
- How to sew sew a skirt to a bodice and add an elasticated waist (Lotta)
- How to add waist ties to cinch in the waist for a more fitted look.
- How to add in-seam pockets (Cielo)
- How to add patch pockets to your dress for extra functionality and style (Stevie, Lotta, Cleo)
- How to sew and attach dungaree straps & buckles (Cleo)
- Adding stability and detail with top stitching (Cleo)
Please note: The more details you incorporate into your project, the more time and effort it will require, which means you may not finish it entirely on the day. However, I’ll guide you as much as possible to ensure you feel confident about any remaining steps—most likely just hemming!
