CHRISTMAS RAG QUILT Workshop

A Christmas rag quilt is the ultimate blend of warmth, Christmas cheer, and rustic charm. Imagine snuggling up on a chilly winter evening, with the soft glow of twinkling Christmas lights, a cup of hot cocoa in hand, and this cozy, festive quilt wrapped around you.

Each square of fabric is layered, with a warm batting sandwiched between, creating a quilt that’s not only beautiful but also incredibly snug. The fabrics fray beautifully over time, creating those signature soft, fluffy edges that make rag quilts so inviting.

Draped over a sofa or tossed on a favorite chair, the quilt becomes an inviting layer that beckons family members to curl up for a movie marathon of classic holiday films or a peaceful afternoon nap by the fireplace. The quilt’s thick, plush feel makes it perfect for cold winter days, adding that extra touch of warmth to Christmas gatherings.

A rag quilt is a type of quilt that has a unique, cozy, and rustic appearance due to its frayed, exposed seams. Unlike traditional quilts where seams are hidden, rag quilts are designed with the seams on the outside of the quilt to create a soft, frayed effect that becomes more pronounced after washing.

You Will Learn:

Making a rag quilt at a workshop offers a great opportunity to acquire a variety of sewing and quilting skills, especially for beginners or those looking to improve their techniques.

You’ll learn how to plan the layout of your quilt, deciding how to arrange your squares for a balanced design.

Each block is typically quilted individually, usually with an “X” stitched from corner to corner.

Rag quilts feature exposed seams that are visible on the front of the quilt. These seams are clipped to encourage fraying.

Working alongside others in a workshop fosters an environment of shared learning.

You can ask questions, observe different techniques, and troubleshoot challenges with the guidance of me, Jacki your teacher for the day.

WHAT’S INCLUDED:

  • Full instructions for your rag quilt
  • ALL fabric and supplies required to make the project
  • use of the studio sewing machine (or bring your own, see right), & all sewing equipment

Your machine must be in good working order as I am not able to service or fix it. If there are consistent issues that keep the rest of the class back then I will politely ask you to continue the class with one of the class machines instead.

SKILL LEVEL:

Level 1 – you need to know how to use a sewing machine to attend this workshop

This is perfect as a first quilt project and only requires a basic working knowledge of a sewing machine i.e., how to thread the machine and wind the bobbin.

This class is suitable for ages 14 and up! If you are booking for a teen who is perhaps a bit nervous to come on their own, they are welcome to bring a chaperone (please do let me know in advance so I can keep an eye on numbers). Or even better, why not book a spot for you to learn along with them!
